The goal is to develop methods for enhancing the capacity and deliverability of the nations gas storage reservoirs.

The objective was to carry out an aeromagnetic survey to resolve the basement structure of the Royal Center Gas Storage Field in Indiana. Details of this structure were obliterated in existing seismic data by intense faulting. The results were correlated to well and seismic data for the storage field in order to identify high-density fracture zones where horizontal drilling might improve peak delivery for the field.
The magnetic data are dominated by responses considered related to intra-basement lithology changes. Four higher susceptibility zones, generally trending northeasterly, were delineated (the royal center, Indian Creek, Thornhope and Fulton basement blocks). Two low susceptibility blocks (Lucerne and O'Brien Lake blocks) were interpreted to reflect granitic basement. The interpretation indicated that the contacts associated with these blocks extend into basement and that these zones reflect the original geologic-lithologic composition of basement.
A number of well-defined lineament zones were identified. NE-trending alignments were considered to reflect the basic geologic basement fabric. NNE-trending alignments concentrated in the western part of the survey area, NNW-trending alignments in the eastern part of the area and NW-trending alignments in the central part of the area were also identified.
This project has been completed.
