Bipartisan Infrastructure Law-Funded NETL Geo Data Work To Be Featured at American Geophysical Union Event
Golden gate bridge

NETL researchers and other participants from NETL-led projects will share their internationally recognized geo-data science expertise through presentations and poster sessions at the 2023 American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting, Dec. 11-15 in San Francisco, California.

NETL’s recent carbon capture and storage (CCS) work, much of which was made possible by the Bipartisan Instructure Law (BIL,) accelerates the commercialization of technologies to safely inject and store carbon dioxide (CO2) in the subsurface. An integral part of NETL’s CCS work is supported by an innovative use of geo data that provides research universities, government regulators, community groups, property owners and others with tools to accurately predict how CO2 will behave when it is sequestered in underground storage reservoirs and forecast how CO2 will react with subsurface conditions.

The upcoming AGU meeting is the world’s largest geoscience conference. More than 25,000 researchers from more than 100 countries who work in the Earth and space sciences community will share scientific findings and identify innovative solutions. Registration information is available here. Information about conference sessions is available on an online program.

Information on NETL presenters and other participants from NETL-led projects who will share their expertise at the event is available here.

NETL will highlight three examples of its geo data work at the AGU event including:

Established in 1919 by the National Research Council, AGU is a global community that supports more than 500,000 advocates and professionals in the Earth and space sciences through partnerships that advance discovery and solution science that accelerates knowledge and creates solutions. Its programs include publishing, convening of virtual and in-person events, and career support.

NETL is a DOE national laboratory that drives innovation and delivers technological solutions for an environmentally sustainable and prosperous energy future. By using its world-class talent and research facilities, NETL is ensuring affordable, abundant, and reliable energy that drives a robust economy and national security, while developing technologies to manage carbon across the full life cycle, enabling environmental sustainability for all Americans.
