Learn about the latest developments in the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)/NETL Carbon Capture Program in this month’s edition of the Carbon Capture Newsletter.

The DOE/NETL Carbon Capture Program is developing the next generation of advanced carbon dioxide (CO2) capture technologies that can provide step-change reductions in both cost and energy requirements as compared to currently available technologies.

The Carbon Capture Program focuses on a broad portfolio of projects, including post- and pre-combustion capture, to reduce carbon emissions across a wide spectrum of industries. Other focus areas include carbon-based power generation and negative emissions technologies such as direct capture of CO2 from the atmosphere and bioenergy with carbon capture.

Information in this month’s edition includes:

  • DOE announced a Bipartisan Infrastructure Law effort to establish four regional direct air capture hubs. The hubs will have the capacity to capture and store at least 1 million metric tons of CO2 from the atmosphere annually, either from a single unit or from multiple interconnected units.
  • NETL is one of four DOE national labs participating in the Net Zero Labs Pilot Initiative. The participating labs will take proactive steps to harness and produce technology at their facilities to drive down their carbon emissions and develop net-zero solutions that can be replicated at facilities across DOE, the federal government and state and local governments.
  • This month’s Business and Industry News updates highlight technology to store CO2 in concrete building blocks and the development of a porous, sponge-like material to trap CO2.
  • The listing of upcoming U.S. and international conferences provides information about events showcasing the latest advancements in the field of carbon capture.
