The expertise and capabilities of NETL’s Institute for the Design of Advanced Energy Systems (IDAES) will be featured at Smart Manufacturing Experience 2022, a three-day conference highlighting transformational technologies to begin Tuesday, June 7, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Jaffer Ghouse, Ph.D., senior research engineer, will present “IDAES: A Next-Generation, Multi-Scale Process Systems Engineering Framework for Optimizing Energy Systems and Manufacturing Processes” at 11:25 a.m. ET Thursday, June 9.

Ghouse’s primary expertise is in mathematical model development, process design and optimization, advanced energy systems and process intensification technologies. Ghouse will discuss work underway at IDAES to help U.S. industries develop 21st century energy systems and manufacturing processes to meet the nation’s decarbonization goals that call for net-zero carbon emission in the power sector by 2035 and the broader economy by 2050.

Formed in 2016, IDAES scientists and engineers use advanced computational modeling and simulation capabilities to design next-generation energy systems that are environmentally sustainable, highly reliable and low cost.

NETL was invited by the Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute to participate in the conference and present information about IDAES research efforts.

“At NETL, we are pleased to showcase the capabilities of IDAES to deliver more sustainable, reliable and affordable energy and process systems for smart manufacturing and accelerate their deployment to support rapid decarbonization in the energy and industrial sectors,” said James Ferguson, NETL’s State & Local Partnerships manager.

The conference will examine eight
disruptive smart manufacturing technologies to meet global changes and drive improvements in supply chains, product design and productivity. The eight smart disruptive technologies are additive manufacturing, artificial intelligence/machine learning, virtual reality/augmented reality/mixed reality, automation and robotics, cybersecurity, data analytics, the industrial internet of things (IoT), and business and workforce transformation.
