NETL will host a webinar at 1 p.m. ET on Tuesday, April 12, to discuss research and development opportunities available within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management’s (FECM) Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Other Minority Institutions (HBCU-OMI) program.

The program seeks to increase participation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) among students from underrepresented and structurally marginalized communities. Attendees will receive information about how the HBCU-OMI program can strongly benefit students and young professionals from these communities and open pathways to success in STEM fields.

Representatives from minority-serving institutions (MSIs) are strongly encouraged to attend and discover NETL’s pivotal role in the HBCU-OMI program. To be considered an MSI, an institution’s minority student enrollment must be 50% or higher. Click here to view the eligibility matrix for 2021. In addition to MSIs, the event is open to anyone looking to learn more about overall FECM university programs.

During the webinar, NETL experts will share advice on conducting business with the U.S. government, including tips on how to access and evaluate funding opportunity announcements and guidelines for writing an effective funding proposal. Information about NETL’s engagement with MSIs and its mission to deliver solutions for an environmentally sustainable energy future will be provided. Interdepartmental collaborations between NETL and other DOE offices will also be discussed.

Between 2010 and 2021, the HBCU-OMI program funded 48 awards totaling $14.3 million to advance the technical skills of students studying at MSIs while making meaningful contributions to FECM research. Learn more about NETL’s involvement in this program here.
