NETL’s ARRA Site Characterization Initiative: Accomplishments

The availability of clean, affordable fossil fuels is essential for domestic and global prosperity and security well into the 21st century. However, a balance between energy security and concerns regarding the impact of increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases (GHGs) —particularly carbon dioxide (CO2)—in the atmosphere is needed. NETL's Storage Program is developing a portfolio of safe, cost-effective CO2 storage technologies that will be available for commercial deployment beginning in 2025.
