Learn about the latest developments in the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)/NETL Carbon Capture Program in this month’s edition of the Carbon Capture Newsletter.

The DOE/NETL Carbon Capture Program is developing the next generation of advanced carbon dioxide (CO₂) capture technologies that can provide step-change reductions in both cost and energy requirements as compared to currently available technologies.

The Carbon Capture Program focuses on a broad portfolio of projects, including post- and pre-combustion capture, to reduce carbon emissions across a wide spectrum of industries. Other focus areas include carbon-based power generation and negative emissions technologies such as direct capture of CO₂ from the atmosphere and bioenergy with carbon capture.

Information in this month’s edition includes:

• NETL’s 2022 Carbon Management Project Review Meeting will be held Aug. 15-19 at the Westin Pittsburgh Hotel in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The meeting will feature many of the Lab’s collaborative efforts with external partners around the nation that are helping to achieve the Biden Administration’s net-zero carbon emission goals in the power sector by 2035 and the broader economy by 2050.
   
• This Interagency News and Updates section highlights the release of the Carbon Matchmaker Tool and the Carbon Management Interactive Diagram — online tools to assist with advancing carbon management technologies and infrastructure — and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) Hub to find information about solicitations and funding opportunities.
   
• Business and Industry News updates focus on a study at U.S. Steel’s Gary Works in Indiana to advance direct air capture technology to remove CO₂ from ambient air and permanently mineralize it in concrete products and a project awarded to the University of Kentucky to develop a cost-effective system that will capture CO₂ and produce hydrogen.
• The listing of upcoming conferences provides information to attend events showcasing the latest advancements in the field of carbon capture undertaken in the United States and internationally.
