Several NETL researchers will present some of the Lab’s recent groundbreaking geological and environmental systems (GES) research during the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting, held in New Orleans, Louisiana, Dec. 13-17. “As the nation transitions to a clean energy economy, technologies enabling carbon capture and storage (CCS) are becoming even more important,” said Ale Hakala, NETL senior fellow for Geological & Environmental Systems. “An important part of our GES work is making sure that these efforts are safe and reliable.”

NETL researchers will share their internationally recognized geo-data science and artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) expertise through an invited talk and other sessions during the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting, held in New Orleans, Louisiana, Dec. 13-17.

NETL research scientist Nor Farida Harun, Ph.D., received a Special Recognition Award for her work toward developing a smart electrical grid during the Women of Color (WOC) in STEM Conference — Digital Twin Experience (DTX), held in a virtual setting Oct. 7-9.

NETL Director Brian Anderson, Ph.D., highlighted how research efforts have supported the development of new ways to convert carbon dioxide (CO2) into useful products during the 3rd International Conference on Carbon Recycling.

NETL presented the computational research of one of its Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship (MLEF) research associates into direct air capture during the High Performance Computing for Energy Innovation (HPC4EI) Manufacturing Day, held virtually Friday, Oct. 1. Under the guidance of research advisor Samir Budhathoki and mentor Jan Steckel at NETL, MLEF research associate Tiernan Baucom presented “Computational Study of MOFs for Direct Air Capture Using Flexible Force Fields.”

NETL Director Brian Anderson, Ph.D., joined U.S. Department of Energy Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fossil Energy and Carbon Management Jennifer Wilcox in highlighting the Lab’s research into carbon capture and storage (CCS) and hydrogen power technologies that could be keys to success in America’s unfolding energy transformation during the 2021 Shale Insight conference.

NETL Director Brian Anderson joined U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Fossil Energy & Carbon Management Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Jennifer Wilcox and NETL Research & Innovation Center Director Bryan Morreale in facilitating an exchange of ideas to leverage the nation’s fossil energy industries in creating clean hydrogen for decarbonization of the nation’s economy.

NETL Director Brian Anderson, Ph.D., who also serves as executive director of the Interagency Working Group (IWG) on Coal & Power Plant Communities & Economic Revitalization, will deliver a keynote address when the Marshall Plan for Middle America holds its Kick-Off Summit on Sept. 27-28 and Oct. 4-5.
