Barbara Kutchko, Ph.D., a celebrated and award-winning NETL researcher who works to increase the safety and efficiency of oil and gas well operations around the world, will share her technical and personal perspectives with a new generation of young people as part of Penn State University’s Celebrating Women in Energy and Water Research seminar series in February.

NETL project partners Tennessee Technological University, the West Virginia Clean Cities Program and the National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium of WVU Energy Institute, are reimagining transportation in rural America by working to build an electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem in Appalachia, and these efforts recently took a crucial step forward in Marion County, West Virginia.

The National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM), is celebrating its second annual Carbon Management Day on December 1 (12.01).

NETL’s Regional Workforce Initiative (RWFI) will host a webinar briefing of the 2022 U.S. Energy and Employment Report (USEER) from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 25, to present key employment data for energy and advanced manufacturing jobs. “Energy jobs are on the rise,” said Anthony Armaly, NETL RWFI federal coordinator. “In 2021, the energy sector employed more than 7.8 million Americans. Webinar participants will learn what types of jobs are available and where they are located during our USEER webinar briefing.”

NETL’s researchers will showcase the Lab’s work to identify and address the nation’s greatest energy, environmental and economic challenges during the 2022 Resource Sustainability Project Review Meeting, scheduled for Oct. 25-27 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

NETL Director Brian Anderson, Ph.D., delivered a keynote address to stakeholders gathered to discuss the NETL-led Institute for the Design of Advanced Energy Systems (IDAES), emphasizing the value of the collaborative initiative for reaching the Administration’s critical decarbonization goals.

NETL Associate Laboratory Director for Research and Innovation Bryan Morreale will join other Lab representatives to showcase the latest developments under way to tackle the nation’s energy and supply chain challenges during the 2022 Materials Science & Technology (MS&T) technical meeting and exhibition, scheduled for Oct. 9-12 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

NETL will co-sponsor the 2022 Evolving Energy Conference, which will be held Thursday, Oct. 6, and Friday, Oct. 7, 2022, in Morgantown, West Virginia, to discuss Appalachia’s expanding energy sector and energy needs.

NETL Director Brian Anderson, Ph.D., highlighted the crucial decarbonization strategies associated with fossil energy use at the 2022 International Pittsburgh Coal Conference, held virtually this week. Anderson kicked off the first plenary session of the conference with a discussion of how integrated carbon management solutions can enable the transformation to a net-zero energy future.

Energy leaders from around the world converged on NETL Pittsburgh Wednesday for an up-close review of the Lab’s growing expertise in a range of cutting-edge energy research areas including carbon dioxide (CO2) storage, conversion, and utilization; development of carbon free fuels; use of drones to monitor emissions from oil and gas production; and advanced alloy development.
