Earth Day

Poster Contest

Show some love for your planet by joining the Earth Day Poster Contest

Help NETL spread the word about Earth Day, April 22, with our Earth Day Poster Contest. This special planet-centric day emphasizes the importance of recycling, conserving energy, and improving air quality. The theme for this year’s Earth Day is “ There is no Planet B". If you are in kindergarten through fifth grade, design a poster about your favorite way to keep the Earth a sparkling place to live, and you could be a winner!

Posters should be original and imaginative, and presented on 8.5 by 11 inch paper. Please be sure to include the student's name; grade; teacher's, group leader's, or parent's name; school or group name; and a phone number on the back of the poster. Teachers, please remember to include a roster of your students with your classes’ submission. We're sorry, but posters cannot be returned!

All posters must be submitted to NETL by April 3, 2017 for judging. The winning posters will be displayed at our sites in Albany, OR; Sugarland, TX; Pittsburgh, PA; and Morgantown, WV, through May 8, 2017.

First, second, and third place as well as honorable mention entries will be selected and posted on NETL’s website. Everyone will receive a certificate for participating. Winners will have their names and entries posted on NETL's website,, under the Education web area.

We can’t wait to see what Earth Day means to you!

NETL is one of the U.S. Department of Energy's national laboratories. NETL-"the ENERGY lab"-focuses on America's economic prosperity, which requires secure, reliable energy supplies at sustainable prices. Three overarching issues characterize the energy situation in the United States. They are energy affordability, supply security, and environmental quality. The Department of Energy's only government-owned, government-operated national lab, NETL is a research and technology center where these energy challenges converge and energy solutions emerge. NETL implements a broad spectrum of energy and environmental research and development programs through its own research staff and through funded research at other labs, universities, and industry that will return benefits for generations to come.
