Fossil Energy Hydrogen Program Plan
This FE Hydrogen Program Plan [PDF-1.58 MB] focuses on the research, development and demonstration (RD&D) activities that are required to develop advanced hydrogen production, storage and delivery technologies from fossil fuels. The result of these activities will improve current technology and make available new, innovative technology that can produce and deliver affordable hydrogen from natural gas and coal with significantly reduced or near-zero emissions.

Hydrogen from Coal Program
The Hydrogen from Coal Program RD&D Plan 2007 [PDF-1.80MB] supports the President’s Advanced Energy Initiative, Hydrogen Fuel Initiative and the FutureGen project through joint public and private RD&D of advanced and novel hydrogen-related technologies for the future hydrogen energy system.

Hydrogen Posture Plan
The Hydrogen Posture Plan [PDF-2.03 MB]  was prepared by the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE's) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) in response to a directive by Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham.

Mitretek Report
This Mitretek Report [PDF-452 KB] examines current and advanced technologies to produce hydrogen from coal. The performance and economics of these technologies are analyzed including configurations for carbon sequestration. For comparison, the economics of producing hydrogen from natural gas and photovoltaic (PV)/water electrolysis are included.

Multi-Year Research, Development, and Demonstration Plan
The Office of Fossil Energy has developed its Hydrogen from Coal Multi-Year Research, Development, and Demonstration Plan [PDF-4.69 MB] to address recent DOE and Administration policy and program initiatives on hydrogen.

National Hydrogen Vision
The National Hydrogen Vision [PDF-1.0 MB] process was initiated by the U.S. Department of Energy, in partnership with key hydrogen energy and transportation organizations to address areas of agreement and disagreement about hydrogen's role in America's energy future, to establish a timeframe in which a hydrogen economy may be realized, and to discuss alternative pathways to achieve the vision.

National Hydrogen Energy Roadmap
The National Hydrogen Energy Roadmap [PDF-1.9 MB] outlines key issues and challenges in hydrogen energy development and suggests paths that government and industry can take to expand use of hydrogen-based energy. Hydrogen offers the long-term potential for an energy system that produces near-zero emissions and is based on domestically available resources.
