The Control of Carbon Feedstock Slag and Its Impact on Gasifier Operation

Project ID:

FY10.MSE.1610238.681
Objective: This research project will evaluate new refractory compositions and will evaluate the effect of mixed carbon feedstock, including biomass and western coals, on the service life of slagging gasifier refractory linings by: completing laboratory testing of proposed improved refractory materials for slagging gasifiers, field testing refractory materials in commercial gasifiers, and, studying the chemical and physical properties of slag from commercial gasifiers.  Additionally, a first generation slag model developed in FY 2009 will be refined to accurately predict slag properties and interactions with refractories.
