| Objective: |
Co-firing biomass with coal for gasification and combustion is a means to reduce the carbon footprint of existing and future coal-fired applications. However, the fibrous nature of plant-based biomass, as well as its high moisture content, makes it challenging to utilize on large scales. This project will build capabilities for biomass analysis; complete chemical, physical, and mechanical characterization of biomass and treated biomass; and evaluate treated biomass for suitability for feed into a high-pressure gasification unit. |
