Gasification Systems - Closely Aligned Programs
Major Demonstrations

Major Demonstrations are designed to demonstrate that a particular new technology, or suite of new technologies, is ready for commercial competition and deployment. Below are the DOE demonstration programs that support, have supported, or will support gasification technologies.

Two commercial integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) plants were built in the 1990s by industry with DOE program support in the Clean Coal Technology (CCT) demonstration program — one at Wabash River in Indiana and the other at Polk Power Station in Florida.

Industrial Carbon Capture & Storage (ICCS) Program was established to expedite and carry out large-scale testing of CO2 sequestration systems in a range of geologic formations, including the expansion of CO2 EOR to new settings, while providing information on the cost and feasibility of deployment of sequestration technologies. The active ICCS project that supports gasification is:

Clean Coal Power Initiative (CCPI) is a joint government and industry program to provide large-scale, cost-shared demonstrations of advanced coal-based power generation technologies. There are four active CCPI projects that support gasification:

Other closely aligned technologies program areas include:
