The Illinois State Geological Survey will develop an integrated vacuum carbonate absorption process (IVCAP) for post-combustion carbon dioxide (CO2) capture. This process employs potassium carbonate solution as a solvent that can be integrated with the power plant steam cycle by using low-quality steam. Researchers will confirm IVCAP process parameters through laboratory testing, identify an effective catalyst for accelerating CO2 absorption rates, and develop an additive for reducing regeneration energy.
