- Preliminary process economic analysis has shown that the capital cost for the TDA sorbent clean-up system is approximately one percent of the integrated gasification combined cycle plant cost.
- TDA’s sorbent formulations have been optimized with the primary focus to design recipes that are easy to produce at large volumes. Binder composition and drying conditions were also optimized. Production batch size was increased from 20 milliliters to 35 liters.
- Tests have been conducted to assess the ability of various sorbents to remove other synthesis gas contaminants such as arsenic.
- A detailed design of a prototype test skid was completed and will be evaluated at the Power System Demonstration Facility (PSDF) at the National Carbon Capture Center (NCCC) in Wilsonville, Alabama. The test skid is designed for stand-alone, unattended testing of TDA’s multi-contaminant removal sorbent at coal gasification facilities. The unit interfaces consist of inlet and outlet points for synthesis gas, connections for facility power, compressed air hookup for the pneumatic systems, and a computer connection for control and data collection. In the design work, all auxiliary components required for the operation of the prototype unit were identified and a process and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) was generated.
