Collaboration is Key to Tackling Grand Energy Challenges
The challenges we face today are the most critical in decades—from the impact of energy use on global ecosystems to the difficulties of efficiently harnessing our natural resources. Science and engineering have provided us with solutions to grand challenges in the past, and we are confident that they will help us build the bridge to a clean, sustainable energy future. However, complex problems are often best tackled by multi-disciplinary, multi-organizational teams that pull on the strength of their shared ideas, strategies, talents and facilities.
Our interdisciplinary teams have experience in taking innovative approaches to energy challenges, resulting in accelerated discovery, research and product development. Some of our key onsite research collaborations include:
- NETL’s Regional University Alliance (NETL-RUA)
- National Risk Assessment Partnership (NRAP)
- Carbon Capture Simulation Initiative (CCSI)
NETL's partnerships with private, public, and research organizations have resulted in successful technology development and deployment. Partnerships are accomplished through agreements, such as CRADAs and licenses, designed to enable mutually beneficial collaborations. This has been accomplished through partnership and licensing options that enable partners to negotiate agreements that suit their needs, and can include Go/No-Go decision points to ensure that progress aligns with expectations. Technologies, once developed, can be made available for licensing.
