Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) is a comprehensive form of analysis at NETL that utilizes the principles of Life Cycle Assessment, Life Cycle Cost Analysis, and various other methods to evaluate the environmental, economic, and social attributes of energy systems.
NETL provides a number of analytical tools designed to assist in conducting oil and natural gas research. Software, developed under various DOE/NETL projects, includes numerical simulators, analytical models, databases, and documentation.
The DOE Smart Grid Implementation Strategy team (previously the Modern Grid Initiative) was conceived at NETL. Its mission was to “accelerate grid modernization in the United States.” Smart grid projects, including 140 DOE-supported activities, are in stages of implementation across the United States.
