Synopsis: This presentation discusses the impact of cofiring biomass in coal-fired power plants. Combustion of biomass in a boiler is carbon neutral, as the carbon dioxide emitted was taken up by the growth of the biomass during cultivation. However upstream processes such as land preparation, cultivation and harvesting, and transportation can offset the carbon taken up by the biomass.
