For those who are not familiar with the Science Bowl here are some highlights:
- This competition is open to high school student teams from Southwestern Pennsylvania (SWPA).
- Teams are quizzed on their scientific knowledge in areas such as biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, earth science, general science, and mathematics.
- The winning team will receive an expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. to compete in the DOE National Science Bowl. (April 30 - May 5, 2009)
- For the past 18 years, the winners of the SWPA Science Bowl have placed in the top ten at the National Competition.
- In 2006, the SWPA sponsored school won the National Competition, had lunch at the White House with the First Lady and traveled to Paris, France.
- In 2007, the SWPA sponsored school placed second in the National Competition and traveled to France to visit Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.
