NETL Wins Regional Technology Transfer Award for AVESTAR® IGCC Dynamic Simulator
The Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC) Mid-Atlantic Region (MAR) will present a 2012 Excellence in Technology Transfer Award to NETL for the state-of the-art, commercially relevant, AVESTAR dynamic simulator for IGCC power plants with carbon capture. NETL is transferring the IGCC operations and control software technology to the energy industry, academic institutions, and research organizations through its world-class AVESTAR workforce training, engineering education, and R&D programs. Strategic agreements mechanisms used by NETL to transfer the technology to the worldwide marketplace include non-exclusive software license agreements, license of federally owned invention, contributed funds-in agreements, and memorandums of understanding. Deployed at the AVESTAR Center in March 2011, the IGCC dynamic simulator and operator training system were developed by NETL in collaboration with Invensys Operations Management, West Virginia University, Fossil Consulting Services, Enginomix, the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), and five EPRI CoalFleet industry partners. The award will be presented at the 2012 FLC-MAR meeting on August 28-30, 2012 in Cambridge, Maryland.
