Dominic R. Alfonso is a computational chemist at NETL, implementing and deploying computer simulation methods that examine chemical reactions within energy applications. The methods Alfonso uses help him to look at processes at the atomic level and at laboratory conditions. The resulting simulations assist researchers in interpreting their data and direct them toward promising new materials. They also provide “feedback loops” that improve the computer modeling itself.

Outside of NETL, Alfonso serves as the head elder of the East Suburban Seventh-day Adventist Church in North Versailles, PA.  There, he works with the church in the Meals on Wheels program, performs regular nursing home and assisted living visitations, and participates in health-based programs for 2–15 year-old kids in the North Versailles and McKeesport areas.
